For decades, Laurie and Ike Perlmutter have been devoted to the efforts of the NYU Langone Medical Center. In 2014 they founded NYU Langone's Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center, which combines visionary thinking and compassionate care with the science of treating the disease. Designated one of the very limited number of Comprehensive Cancer Centers by the National Cancer Center, it is one of the nation's leading centers for cancer research and treatment and part of a premier academic medical center.

CANCER RESEARCH

Laurie and Ike Perlmutter believe strongly in the need to end the devastation of cancer. Beyond the founding of the Perlmutter Cancer Center, their Foundation has also ontributed to other major cancer research initiatives and organizations, such as the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, and Gift of Life.

BREAST HEALTH OUTREACH

Women of color are far more likely to suffer aggressive types of breast cancer that are harder to treat and more likely to be fatal.   These differences led the Perlmutters to support community outreach, education and screening for the disease, making critical early treatment accessible for many underserved women.

PLASTIC SURGERY

Cosmetic surgery has the power to transform lives.  It helps to restore the appearance of victims of disfiguring accidents and allow them to function more easily in society.  Beyond that, cosmetic surgery is the tool for the transgender community to receive gender-affirming procedures.   The Perlmutter Cosmetic Surgery Center at NYU Langone Medical Center is a leading, safe, and supportive place for the transgender community and provides them with all their healthcare needs.

SUPPORTING HEALTH INITIATIVES

The Perlmutters’ commitment to cancer research also led them to contribute to many other organizations fighting the disease, as well as other healthcare initiatives beyond cancer, such as AIDS, Alzheimer's, plastic surgery, and more.
